Carlsbad is a coastal community located 35 miles north of downtown San Diego. It is bordered by Encinitas to the south, Vista and San Marcos to the east, and Oceanside to the north. San Diegans and visitors enjoy surfing, fishing, swimming, and sunbathing along the 7 mile stretch of beach.

Legoland is a popular tourist attractions as is the Carlsbad flower fields where, in March and April, the hillside near Interstate 5, transforms into a rainbow of vibrant colors with the blooming the cuniculus flowers. The Museum of Making Music is also in Carlsbad on a hill overlooking Legoland. It offers visitors a nostalgic journey through a century of musical instruments from the 1890's to the present.

Carlsbad residents typically use the North San Diego County Court House located at 325 South Melrose Dr. in Vista off Highway 78.
