San Marcos located in northern San Diego County is best known as the home of California State University, San Marcos. CSU, San Marcos is located on a 300 acres hillside overlooking the city of San Marcos. Palomar College, a public 2-year college is also located in San Marcos. There are many parks and recreation centers including San Elijo Park which has lighted ball fields, playgrounds, picnic areas, trails, a dog park, and a water “sprayground.” Lake San Marcos has a small lake and one of several golf courses in the city. San Marcos is located along the Sprinter commuter rail line with easy access to the nearby beaches. It also is home to the famous Gold Door Fitness Resort.
San Marcos residents typically use the North San Diego County Court House located at 325 South Melrose Dr. in Vista off Highway 78.
