Mira Mesa, California

Mira Mesa is an area of San Diego bordered by Interstate 15 to the east, Interstate 805 to the west, the Los Penasquitos Canyon to the north and the MCAS Miramar to the south. Mira Mesa has grown into the largest suburb of San Diego.

Mira Mesa is home to the Marine Corp Air Station, formerly NAS Miramar. For nearly 30 years the Navy's Top Gun School was located at NAS Miramar. Today the site is a Marine air station but still hosts the annual Miramar Air Show held annually in October. During the 3 day event, you can see a demonstration by the Blue Angels and view many exhibits and aircraft on the ground. Also in Mira Mesa is the Flying Leatherneck Historical Foundation and Aviation Museum near MCAS Miramar where you can many old airplanes are on display.

Also of interest near Mira Mesa is Lake Miramar which has boat rentals, a hiking and bicycle path around the lake, and picnic areas. Also in Mira Mesa is an indoor Kart Racing track, an ice rink, and the Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve where you can hike and bicycle the 4000 acres of park. The trails, depending on the time of year, can include waterfalls, streams, a fresh water marsh, and forests of oaks and sycamores. There is also the historic Santa Maria de los Penasquitos adobe which has been restored and is open for tours.
