Ramona is a community in San Diego County that is not yet incorporated but has plans of incorporation. The Ramona Community Planning area is located east northeast of the bordering city of Poway, east southeast of the City of Escondido, north of Lakeside and west southwest of Santa Ysabel. Once known as the "Turkey Capital of the World," the turkey and chicken ranching industry in Ramona has diminished due to population growth and rising costs of living. Currently, Ramona's most notable agricultural pursuit is its wine grape production. Surrounding the town is the 89,000-acre Ramona Valley American Viticultural Area.
