Their plan was to develop a "52-week vacationland" and it has been beautifully implemented. Consisting of canyons and rolling hills, Rancho Bernardo is a sprawling community with shopping malls, golf courses, and business parks. Neighboring Rancho Sante Fe, Rancho Bernardo is located about 20 miles north-north-east of downtown San Diego, northwest of the city of Poway and south of Escondido.
