Santee, California

The city of Santee is an incorporated city of about 56,000 people in San Diego's east county. It is located 18 miles northeast of downtown San Diego and is bordered on the east and west by slopes and rugged mountains. It is one of the few areas in San Diego that still has open space for building. The San Diego trolley has its east terminal in Santee, which makes its easy for residents to commute to San Diego State University, Mission Valley, and downtown San Diego.

Santee also has a civic theater, amphitheater, 7 public parks, 8 elementary schools, 2 high schools, and 2 colleges, Grossmont and Cuyamaca. One of the outdoor highlights of Santee is Sycamore Canyon Preserve and Goodan Ranch co-owned by Santee and Poway. Much of this open space burned in the Cedar fire of 2003 but it is now open with a new center. Sycamore Canyon and Goodan Ranch offer over 20 miles of hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails.
